First race where would properly test the leg after the injury.. there was no choice actually.. climbing from 700m to 1850m in 14k’s (the mountain) was included in the cycle package!! The ride was always going to be tough with limited training due to Paris. About 600 of us took off in about 16° water, and I decided to push the swim to get some glory. Helicopter, cameras etc everywhere! Exited first and was soon chased down on the bike. Hit the mountain and the storm arrived, rain, wind and then hail! I fell to 23rd and onto the run (on the summit) caught up one place.. a race to remember!!
‘Col’ Time.. ie ‘mountain’ time! We traversed, ‘par velo’ in the next 3 days, les Deux alps (1650m) Col du Lauterat (2058m) and Col du Galibier (2645m) and of course Alp d’huez.. again!!
